A family business based near St Andrews (home of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club), N&D Walsh is one of the few independent businesses specialising in the production of traditional beef dripping. Derek Walsh, the son of the founder, has been very much involved in the business since 1967.

N&D Walsh Beef Dripping, sold under ‘The Great Little Fryer’ brand, is made from premium grade beef suet, sourced from UK Red Tractor approved suppliers.

UK beef stock is grass fed in the summer months, supplemented by silage and cereals during the winter months.

Traditional processes

N&D Walsh ‘Great Little Fryer’ is a traditional beef dripping, with natural beef dripping aroma. The product is made using non-hydrogenated, non-homogenised and non-deodorised processes, thus retaining full flavour.

Beef suet is minced and gently cooked in vintage steam jacketed vats – nothing is added or taken away.  The product is completely British, including the packaging.  We do not “ship in” 30 tonne tankers from abroad and pack it here to look British, ours is British.

As the taste and quality of ingredients becomes more and more important to all the experienced and budding home chefs out there, beef dripping is back in vogue.  Natural fat is no longer the enemy but an essential part of a balanced diet.

TV chefs use beef dripping to improve flavour and presentation, adding to the resurgence in this all-natural food product as the basis for so many great dishes.

Home-cooked goodness

No matter what the cooking style - fried, baked, roasted braised or grilled - beef dripping brings back that genuine, home-cooked taste.  It’s suitable for deep or shallow frying, perfect for chips, roast potatoes, roasting vegetables, and sealing joints of meat prior to cooking.

Rumour has it that N&D Walsh Beef Dripping is the secret to perfect Yorkshire Pudding, every time!

Steaks can be oven cooked in a casserole dish with two tablespoons of beef dripping on top, melting into and around the meat.

One young mother told us that her daughters would not eat her chips but always loved granny’s.  Mum used oil; granny beef dripping.
